Since there is only the 2 of us most of the time, decided to give the tabletop model a spin. It will be great not to have to fire the big boy up for small cooks. Burn in is complete. Onion burgers for the maiden cook tonight.

I have been eyeing one of those for the same reason. Keep us posted on how it is working out and thoughts on transport and usability. Would battery powered one be worth the extra cash?

nice touch with the tool box and the supply of adult beverage on the bottom for the long smoke

Went to use the grill for the 3rd time. It had been completely cleaned. Started on smoke with the lid open. Waited till all the startup smoke had cleared and gave it another 5 minutes. Set temp to 350. Temp started dropping and dropped all the way to 120. It then took off and hit 600 before it set an err of over heated. I turned it off and waited for it to cool down only to discover it was burning back into the auger. Needless to say I returned the grill. I’ve never had this issue with any of the pellet grills I’ve owned.

Sounds like maybe it flamed out after the initial startup. Once you set it at 350, it kept feeding pellets trying to get up to temp, but nothing was burning in the pot. Then the ignitor would heat up once it senses a low temp, and then it had a lot of pellets to burn all at once, driving the temp up to 600+.

Otherwise, is there any chance there was a gap of pellets in your auger? Maybe it was shooting blanks for a little while during the initial drop in temp.

I'm not sure if either scenario would explain the burn back into the hopper though.

I had mine reach 600 but it was burning off grease after a multi butt cook pretty scary 😨
