Another FNG question

Is it supposed to constantly smoke, or does the smoke cycle on and off? Turned it on using SMOKE setting, pre-heated to 350, inserted ribs, lowered temp to 225. Smoke seems to cycle.

On my vertical, when I set it to smoke, it does cycle. Meaning, it’ll get pretty smoky and then less so back-and-forth.
