Ash inside the smoker

For some reason I have all sorts of ash inside the smoker box. Not sure why this would happen. Should there be a seal around the edges of the black box in the photos? It seems all the ash came from around the corners in the last two photos. Thanks in advance for the advice!!

what do you think happens to burnt pellets with a fan going?

I would assume they drop to the ash trey and not float all around the smoker! It’s not like I want to eat ash in my meat!!!

Time to vacuum under the black box, a #3 Philips with an extension works great.

It’s not dust but fly ash from the burning pellets and that’s normal for the initial burnoff. It’ll lessen greatly with low and slow usage and over time it’ll stick to the greasy metals.

Mines is like that when it needs to be taken apart and vacuumed out well.
