Auger/temperature issues

Hi! As a new user we didn’t know that we needed to make sure no pellets were in the hopper for the winter. We had to take the grill apart and clean the auger out. We have it all cleaned and sanded. The grill starts but now when the temp is set at 250 it is going much higher then it is set for. Then sometimes it cools down and the auger will not kick back on
