Hi,
I have an Austin XL that works great a couple times then the fire pot overflows and the fire goes out. I keep the unit clean and vacuum out the ash pot about every other cook.
I use Pit Boss Pellets for the most part either Competition or Harvest blend. The hopper is always full or near full so its not running out of pellets. P setting is at a 4 and have tried 5 with no change. Unit is stored outside but is under a deck and has a cover.
So I'm looking for ideas on how to troubleshoot and what to replace? The intermittent nature makes it difficult.
Thanks

How often do you clean the temperature sensor?
When you fire it up are your temperatures off a large amount?

A dirty temperature sensor will give you temperature swings

Check your wiring connections to make sure their connected good

You might also take the grates and plate out of it. Fire it up and watch your igniter
Also check the position of it.

If the igniter isn’t firing up I’d start with calling pitboss support and have them send you a new igniter

Hopefully this will help you
Let me know what you find 🇺🇸🇺🇸

Bought it 2nd hand, just cleaned the probe (shiny clean) a week ago seeing if it would correct the problem. Temperatures seem close but can have a 20 ish degree swing. By check connections do you mean at control board? I have watched the ignition and the probe is roughly 3/8th out. I don't know if it helps but the problem is never at ignition it's always mid cook. It can be hours into it. Thank in advance for your help.
