Brand New PB1150DX App will not update the grill

Hello to all new to the forum. I just bought my first Pit Boss Smoker it’s a PB1150DX. I have tried with my iPhone and my android tablet both will connect to Bluetooth and WiFi go through all the steps and when it gets to gathering data it states the grill needs to update for a better grilling experience. So I touch yes it goes to the update screen but it never even tries to update after about 5 seconds it says the app was not able to update the grill would you like to try again? But it keeps repeating the same thing.. I am completely stuck can’t control the grill by mobile which is a great feature can anyone give suggestions to help with this issue?

I don’t have the app but I’ve seen other folks say uninstall and reinstall

Hello and thank you.. Yes I have done that a number of times. I’m not having much luck getting in touch with Pit Boss. I just don’t understand its brand new every thing connects just fine it gets to the update screen but it never really starts before I get the message that the app can’t update your grill try again it’s very frustrating. Grill works fine without running on a mobile device but would be nice to have it and heck we pay for the smoker we should be able to use the features.

Thank you all for the responses. I’ll give that a try tomorrow morning. Will be at work not at the grill but maybe they will have some ideas to try.. I’ve done about every that you could ever find between googling, Reddit you name it I’ve tried it.. I can’t believe the amount of complaints about my same issue.

Update I was going through reading some posts on this topic in this forum and found someone else with a very similar issue back in 2024. I the app version then was 2.0.1 I had to download the 2.0.1 apk on my android tablet once I went in and set up the app and connected the grill it works great… So I went in on my IPhone and deleted the grill and started over put in the different grill name that I used on the android all other information the same and it goes to update the grill but never moves off 0% it asks if I want to try again I cancel and the app opens to my grill and I can control my grill!!!!! So all n all a small walk around using a slightly older version and cancel when it asks to update brings me to my grill screen and I can control it… Not sure if this info will help anyone else but its kind of a pain in the rear to go through the hoops but I can say its a great feature to have.. For the price of the smokers yes I want that added feature to work.. hope this helps anyone struggling to control their smoker with the app.. Maybe there is an issue with the newest app on some devices.
