Flame boiler rust

Hi newish to this pit boss Austin XL. Used it maybe 7 times and the flame boiler is badly rusted. Tips on how to clean it and make it look new again. I did hear something about baking soda but not sure what to do

sand down the rust and season it with bacon grease. for some reason the manual does not tell you to season the unit. set the temp to 375 for 20 minutes. the broiler will start to darken.
