Have you ever seen somebody get their arm sucked into an auger? I have. It’s not very pretty. Granted it was a much larger, industrial hopper, but this would still be gruesome. It’s there to prevent Darwin awards.Idk why they put it on the hopper? The screws were so tight the heads stripped out ! You cant get in the hopper to adjust the void in pellets without a stick! Nothing a pair of tin snips couldnt handle!
I gotcha no danger there aint puttin my fingers in the augerHave you ever seen somebody get their arm sucked into an auger? I have. It’s not very pretty. Granted it was a much larger, industrial hopper, but this would still be gruesome. It’s there to prevent Darwin awards.
99% of people are smart enough not to. It’s there for the 1%.I gotcha no danger there aint puttin my fingers in the auger
I took mine out on day 1. It's been 3 years without any issues. I would remove it if you want to.I think it helps prevent box distortion too. I am not removing mine.

Long 1/2" pvc and a shop vac.The hopper on the Lockhart is poorly designed and feeds poorly. I have removed the grate . I unplug the grill if I am near the auger to avoid injury. There is no way to completely empty the hopper with the guide in place.
Too much trouble. I‘ll stay in the 1%!Long 1/2" pvc and a shop vac.
