We just got our first pellet smoker/grill. The 1600PS3. It keeps heating to about 50 degrees more than we ask. Set to 375 it went up to 425, dropped to 335, it dropped to about 385 - according to its own readout. We haven't checked with a separate therm yet. Is this normal?

Did you go from ambient directly to 375°F or step it up? It may have overshot the set point, but should stabilize and come back down to the set point. Otherwise, IMO it doesn’t appear to be normal.
We just set it up and turned it on for the first time. It said you set it at 350 and let it go for 30-45 min for the burn off. It shot up over 400 and was still climbing until we lowered our setting. It dropped to 385 and stayed. It is holding about 50 higher than whatever we set it at. Sounds like I need to contact Pit Boss. Thank you!

Keep cookin and let the pid learn. When I first turn my 1150 on it starts in smoke mode. I let it get lit and temp settle then I turn it upto what temp I want to cook at
