I just got my first Pitboss grill/smoker this past weekend. All put together and seasoned. Definitely not new to smoking, but new to Pit Boss. I have the Laredo 1000.

Couple of questions:

Is there such a thing as a 'smoke mode' on the Laredo 1000? I cooked up some chicken thighs and there just didn't seem to enough smoke. The chicken was good, but lacked a true smoky flavor I have been used to with my previous smokers. How do I get more smoke if there isn't a smoke mode.

Have any of you used smoke tubes? Thoughts on them?

Sorry for the silly opening questions. Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the group. You'll not get the same smoke flavor you get with a stick burner. The pellets burn a cleaner smoke. You may want to try a smoke tube to get that extra smoke flavor.

For smoking whole chickens, brisket, roast etc, I use a smoke tube and quite often load it with charcoal pellets to get a deeper smoke ring. On my 850 I place it in the back and middle setting on top of the grates. keep it away from where your temp probe for cook temp is located or it will defiantly over run the temp setting in a hurry. Works pretty well.
