I have a Pitboss 850 Pro and it seems to work fine but I have noticed that the IGNITOR indicator comes on quite often even after the grill has been running for some time. I have not monitored it enough to notice a pattern but I did notice that recently it had been running for a good 7 hrs or so at 200F and then I bumped it to 230F and as it was increasing temps the IGNITOR indicator would come on and go off a bit. I have seen this other times as well and so far have assumed it is normal, although I don't understand why. Can anyone comment? I am little concerned that it might cause the ignitor to burn out prematurely.

Thats normal for those. I have the 820 and it does the same thing. You can find the answers on the Q&A section of the web sight also.

If it didnt your pellets would probably just smolder out. When it feeds more pellets it comes on for a bit to keep things burning.

Keeps the box from going out. My old Austin used to go out at about 8-10 hours all the time. When the pellets are added to the fire box if there's not enough fire left in there they'll just go out. Making the ignitor come on with the auger movement was a smart move. I actually had it go out one time and the auger kept feeding (as the temp was too low and it was trying to raise it). After the bottom of the smoker had a few pounds of pellets in it the fire kicked back in. Had a huge fire coming out from around the door and out of the top of the stack. Had to open the door with a broom handle. Ruined a nice butt that day.
