Hey guys. Just got my 850 from Lowe's a few days ago and had some questions.

So far I've cooked some chicken and then attempted a brisket on this thing with various results. The chicken turned out pretty decent but the brisket was another story. It seemed to have an odd taste to it. Almost like it was a tad bitter. I was using just some generic hickory pellets and I'm thinking this was the issue more than anything. I ended up cooking the brisket at 250 for 2 hours and then wrapped it when it got to 165. That's how I used to do it on my charcoal grill and it turned out great.

Second question is around a part for it. I had to call support the day I put it together to order a new chimney for it. The inside of it was missing the screw holder where I can screw the chimney cap down on it. Now I had to call them to replace the little grommet that sits around the flame broiler adjustment bar. It split in half. I'd rather just go to the store and pay the 99 cents for new one. Does anyone know the size of the grommet?

Welcome from Texas to the group!!
I use lumberjack from Atwood’s for brisket
For chicken or pork ribs I use a apple flavor
Don’t know the size of the grommet but pitboss should be able to help you with that I’m sure 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hopefully this helps you

Well they did help me, sorta. I just got the order saying they're sending me entire new flame broiler lever. So unless the grommet comes with that they're sending me the wrong stuff.

Also I ended up picking up some pecan pellets. Hopefully this will go a bit better. Trying some ribs tonight.

Good luck hope they help you! I have used Pit Boss Pecan for turkey and ribs. I like it especially for turkey. If you like more smoke, my advice is to add an amazin smoke tube. I have used it on ribs and worked great. I prefer less smoke on turkey. I am experimenting with different brands of pellets. Bear Mountain seems to provide more smoke. So far, I am pleased with Pit Boss pellets and the price. My next experiment will be Kingsford. Experiment and have fun!
