Hi from Central Florida! Just bought a PB 700 from Lowes. I know it's the lower tiered model but hoping it will fill my needs. Use to have a Traeger 575 before relocating. It was fine but suffered from flame out problems. Have regular propane grill for my hot and fast cooks. The PB will be low and slow only. Didn't want to spend over $500 and fit the bill.

I have a PB700. I love it. Got it on a lightning deal off amazon for $250. It was my plunge into pellet grills and im hooked. So easy and good....

I will say this, set it and forget it. The more you use it, the better it will get. Dont chase or worry about temp swings. Pay attention to meat temps. Adjust heat or "P" setting as needed. My p setting default is 4. Only time ive ever adjusted it was during winter in windy conditions. Rear of my grill faces north and the wind was straight out of the north. Grill couldnt hit temp and was having big temp swings. Laid a moving blanket over the holes on the back and all was good, so i made a shield...

I also have a 700 and it has served me well for about 2.5 years. Only flameout issues I've run into involved not vacuuming the firebox often enough.

If you're wanting to do a lot of low and slow cooking, there is a PID controller that works if you have the vertical style control plate like I do, it has 3 probes and bluetooth/wifi (and is finally stable and useful again after a firmware update!) and 5 degree controls on the knob (in bluetooth it's more like the 10 notches of the old controller).

I don't think it sears steak as well, but that could be my imagination. Anyway, that PID board is pretty cheap now! https://www.pitboss-grills.com/prod...cal-110vac-3mp-wifi-bt?variant=41693257040060

I have that and added a side shelf and smokestack and it sits under a sportsman 820-made cover that fits perfectly.

i have a 4 year old Austin XL from Walmart. Not sure where I sit on the cost scale but love it . It is my first pellet grill and was also a cost concious purchase. Im not new to smoking, and I have an electric upright from master built and have used it a great deal. I also have a charcoal grill that I fire up every so often. I have had great results with my pitboss product and hope you do as well. Smoke on my friend.

I will check out the PID. Mine came with smokestack and side shelf. Two smokes in and it seems like it works pretty good. Will monitor for hot spots where the pit/sear zone are.
