Temp outside is 32F. It has been about 45 min. and the Pittboss is stuck at 210F. So I inserted the probe and get 214F. I am trying to pre-heat to 250. Any ideas why it's stuck at 210?

First question is how often you clean the temperature sensor. I clean mine after each use.
Hopefully this helps you 🇺🇸🇺🇸

I decided to shut it off. I have used it only a few times since the last cleaning. Will do a thorough cleaning later in the week. Since this is my 1st smoker I'm wondering if it's to cold to use it.

i haven't had issues with current pitboss because it's a vertical and wind i guess doesn't effect it as much, but on my old treager i had to set it a good 20* higher than i wanted because it wasn't able to keep that temp duing the cold months of low 30's/20's

I really only needed 230 but set it to 250 to get it up there. Then I usually set it after it goes over 230.
It was cold and windy in our area yesterday, (Rhode Island and Massachusetts) if your grill or smoker is out in that wind you'll have to compensate and boost up your temp to maintain the temp you want inside. I smoke year-round, even when it's in the single digits outside.

I am in your area. Since I had set it to 250 to get it to 230 then it sounds like I should of set it to 280 or 300? It's beginning to look like any pellet smoker is not efficient enough to run in the winter months or at least below 50F outside.

You can run it in the winter, just up your temp to compensate, so you have the temp inside you want to smoke at. It's a smoker or grill and mpg really doesn't matter, as long as you're getting great stuff cooked on it. 300 is nothing to hold 225 deg inside on a cold windy day.
