Hello Ive been having some temp problems the past 2 cooks. The digital controller keeps showing the temperature as being a whole lot higher than what it is. Right now im having to set the controller to 350 just to get my grill to really be at 225. I have a probe from my inkbird setting on grate to know what the actual temp its cooking at is(218 in photo compared to what the pit boss controller shows). I cleaned the temperature probe mounted in the unit very thoroughly and that didnt help any. Just looking for suggestions on what needs to be replaced to make everything work correctly.

two things can be happening is the auger motor is not functioning correctly or controller board is not communicating correctly based on temps to feed the pellets.

I would remove the grates and heat deflector so you can watch how the pellets are feeding into the fire pot. Keep it set at 350 that will allow the auger to spin more if you see it spit out pellets and there is a long delay then it feeds pellets. Then I would check to make sure that the auger is not being jammed on which the are videos on YouTube that provides instructions on how to take a part the auger.

Also if it is still under warranty then call Pit Boss and let them know so they review it and send out replacement parts.

Prob a probe issue. Mine was doing the opposite. On smoke setting it would say over 500 on the display. So I put a probe on the grates and it was around 190. Then it gave me ErH and shut down. Ruled out pellets overfeeding. I removed the heat plate and watched. Everything operated normally. I called PB, left a call back number and they called back. Sending a new probe and it is going on 2 weeks now and it is still on back order.

Thanks for the replies. Ya I finally got ahold of pitboss yesterday. They said they thought either the probe or the controller and they said they had both and would send them both for free. So guess we will find out

Chrismg32,
I really hope that fixes your issues. I have a new controller from Smokedaddy and an aftermarket probe and my grill has never maintained a temp in its miserable life. I basically just have a pellet grill, not a smoker. Yesterday I set it at 160 and mowed lawn, came back and it was 260.

Mines worked fine for 2-3 years up until a few weeks ago. Want to upgrade to something bigger but just being cheap and dont want to spend any money lol

So you replaced the controller with a Smokedaddy and still have issues?
