I have been looking at this smoker from Lowes. I have seen the 850 and 110 series having controller issues and limited degree increments. Can someone tell me for this model what the degree increments are?

Also, has anyone had any luck getting the controller for this model updated like the 1100?

Increments are S - 150 - 175 - 200 - 225 - 250 - 300 - 350 - 400 - 450.

No upgrade available right now. They are releasing a Version 2 of the controller that will be available soon on the series 4 V2 smokers from Lowes...but they have said there is no software update that will be available. Not sure what to believe. If you can wait a bit longer....I would to ensure you get one of the newer ones.....but no way of knowing when they will have them on the smokers.

It is a fantastic smoker....but the controller sucks.....a version 2 of the controller that is updated with more temperature options and reduced lag and a larger gain on the PID controller would make it just about the best bang for the buck period.

No announcement due to not updating the v1 of the controller. Have no idea how to determine it's a new one. Heard this from Grill Sergeant from YouTube on his Facebook group

I'd stay away from PB until better reports on controller issue. You're more likely to "buy" a problem right now, it's been a headache.

Unless you have another controller to put in there....in which case.....it becomes the best smoker for the money at that price range...!

Yes! Is absolutely a game changer! Is what pitboss should provide. I love the smoker and think it is the best for the value in verticals....just so impressed with the build quality. But with the RecTec controller....nothing comes close to it. In fact, I just sold my RecTec rt-340 today, because the series 4v2 is a better fit for me with my gas grill to sear.

I did look at that one, but I had a spare RecTec controller, so free is always better. And I love the RecTec app more too.

I was looking for a Rec-Tec controller to check out but can not find one listed online. Are the hard to retrofit? I am not an engineer.

Not at all. You can't get one unless u have a RecTec smoker. If u manage to get one, I will help u get it installed. Wiring diagram, color code and setup. I used a piece of lexan so I could send the holes I needed to drill. The Savannah stoker is another option that u can buy online too
