Just picked up a PB1300PS4 a couple weeks ago, the new model with the touchscreen. The grill itself is great, but the app has been nothing but problems. Seems to be a common theme about that so I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions.

When I first got it, the app did not work period. It connected to the grill, and let me connect the grill to wifi, but it would not show any information on the app. After a few calls to pit boss and a bunch of troubleshooting, they said there was an update coming out the next day to fix it. Sure enough, the update showed up. Updated the app on my phone, it then did an update on the grill. After that, the app started working correctly, on Bluetooth and on WiFi. I figured it was good to go.

Nope. It will work sometimes, just to randomly drop connection and refuse to ever show any information again. I have tried removing and re adding the grill, deleting and reinstalling the app, deleting the grill and re pairing it with Bluetooth, restarting the phone, trying to connect from 6 inches away from the grill and trying to connect from a mile away using WiFi. NOTHING will make it reconnect when it gets to this state except one thing. Power cycling the grill itself. Turn the grill off and back on, app starts working instantly. Might work for 5 minutes or 5 hours, but at some point it will drop connection again and not come back.

Power cycling the grill mid cook is obviously less than ideal, and if I’m not home that’s not even an option. Has anyone seen this issue before or have any suggestions? Really like the grill itself and the app is great when it works.

Happens all the time. Im on a rectec forum also and the same complaints are there too....
Yeah. I read tons of complaints about the app/wifi/bluetooth connectivity, some from 5+ years ago. I was hoping they got it straightened out by now. It’s crazy to me that they can’t resolve these issues. Not that it is a complete deal breaker, but it’s a feature you pay for.
