Let’s make this story short as possible.
Well, I had the 820 pro for over a year and cooked tons of food on it and loved it! But I always HATED vacuuming out the fire pit. Then came along the NEW 1150 pro with the easy ash dump! I just had to have it!!! Oh, and the new PID controller with the app!!
I went to Lowe’s when they had some in stock and instantly picked one up. Oh, and it had to still be in the box, I don’t trust anyone else to assemble it correctly.
Once I got home I took a few pictures of my old 820 pro and posted it for sale on Facebook. And OMG, it sold in 10 minutes for asking price! Done gone!
I got the the 1150 assembled and started the required burn in. That went smoothly. After that I played around with the temps. That’s where I’m not happy.... all of the reviews I’ve read about not holding temps from 200-300 were true! I even tried preheating the thing at 350 for 45 minutes then drop the temp to 250 and it still wouldn’t hold. It might hold for 15 minutes then it would drop to about 205 and never recover.
I contacted pit boss and they had me do this elaborate burn in that takes all day and almost a full bag of pellets to no avail. Same temp drops. Contacted them again yesterday to let them know it didn’t work and they responded that I could exchange it for another 1150, but I would probably have the same problem or I could call back in a week or so to see if they have a software update available yet.
Well, this thing is getting returned to Lowe’s and I’m completely put off by pit boss and this infuriating product.
Anyways, I have replaced it with the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050. It has a PID controller in 5 degree increments and runs off of regular charcoal. You can mix in wood chunks for smoking still. Oh, and it holds temps perfectly!! Anything from low to high! And it gets warmed up quickly! So far I’m completely impressed with it!
I really wish the 1150 would have worked as the actual build quality looks very impressive and heavy. Maybe they will get it updated/fixes someday. But I’m done. I don’t want to wait for someday.
