So I’m looking into buying a new unit. I’ve been researching the differences between the pro (V3) and completion series. All seems to be pretty equal across the board with the biggest difference being hinged vs rolling lid. Has anybody here had experience with both? Do you have a general preference either way?

I know there are complaints about cleaning the Pro's grates as they are diamond shaped instead of straight grids. The rolling lid on the Competition is awesome!

I’ve owned an Austin , 1150 pro and now a 1600 Competition Series. I like the ash clean out and roll top on the 1600.

I like my Competition Series 1250 with the roll top. I think having the fire pot on the outside, underneath the smoker reduces the hot spot in the middle; flames are further from the deflector shield. Also easier to clean the inside without the fire pot being in the middle.
PB mod-it leaks a lot of smoke around the lid so I added high temp tape to underside of lid so the smoke mostly leaves through the vents on the backside (no chimney on the Competition Series models).
