Hello

I have a Pro Series II 4-Series Wood Pellet Vertical Smoker and am wondering if there is a better way to route the meat probe wire or if they make a wireless probe that connects to the plugs on the unit (wireless probe, with a reciever connected directly to the Pit Boss smoker M/P plugs). My probe went bad after only a few months and I believe it's due to the crimping in the wire from being pinched while running thru the door. Is there a better way to route the wire to the inside without pinching it in the door. I thought about going in thru the smoke stack, but the wire would only be long enough to reach the top shelf. If not, is there a wireless probe that can connect directly to the outside M/P plugs. I would rather not go with an different brand (Inkbird, etc) as I prefer to have just one app to look at while I'm smoking, but will buy one if that is the best solution.

Thanks

Jeff

Drill a hole in one of these places and run probe wires through there....

I have the same smoker as my wires go through the door, and I never had any issues. Somebody on here a while ago ran the probe wire through the smokestack and into the smoker.
Thanks. I'm assuming it was caused by routing thru the door - the cable is pretty gnarly looking and has some cuts in the braid for only being a few months old. I contacted Pit Boss warranty and they are sending me a new one, no questions asked (gotta love when companies stand behind their product). I tried routing thru the stack, but it only reaches the top shelf. So I'd need to find one with a longer cable or see if somebody makes a cable "extension cord).

Thanks - I thought of that. But it's the same way with my boat - I don't have the cajones to start drilling until I've owned something for a while and done a TON of research to see if there is an alternative. Do you know if the outer edge stays cool enough to put a rubber gromet in there to keep the wire off of the sharp edges?

I have run mine down through the smoke stack and through the door. Never had a problem either way. Then I purchased the 4 probe set by TYPHUR from amazon and have never run the wired probes since then.
Same unit, PB pro 4 series II.
If I cook on the top rack, I'll run down the stack. Until then I'll kep running thru the door. As much as I like the wireless probes, I would love to find one that has a wireless receiver that plugs into the M/P ports on the cooker. I really like only having one app to monitor while smoking (Hey Pit Boss sales team - are you listening on here. I would pay extra for a wireless meat probe that I can use with the Pit boss app already on my phone). I might bite the bullet and get a wireless probe (or 2) and just get used to using 2 apps.

That's perfect! I be getting one of those. I'm assuming I will need to mount one on the outer wall and one on the inner wall? Is there any type of insulation between the 2 walls I need to worry about or just an air gap? Thank you!!!

I'm almost positive the walls of Pit Boss vertical smokers are insulated. But our smoke comes out of the three walls, two sides and the back, I'd be careful with drilling holes in the cabinet. Just put the wire through the door and make sure you don't kink or gouge them up.
