New here thanks for the add. I have a verticle pitboss 5. It sat for a year while I was working out of state. I cleaned out the hopper and auger but it won't heat up. What next?

Check your fuse and connections
Can you see if the igniter is working?

The ignitor itself may be caked up with dust, as I learned from personal experience when my son spilled the water pan inside the smoker and "forgot" to tell me. Also I realized the lower fan was not operating and shot it with a few squirts of WD40 then all was good.

Igniter glowes red. I get a little smoke but won't go over 80 degrees. The fan on the auger turns on. I pulled the auger and checked all of the connections.Welcome from East Texas to the group!!

Is that the auger fan or the bigger fan?

The induction fan is not turn on. I'm pretty sure that is the problemThat’s what I’d check next. Let me know

the bigger fan on the bottom. The auger fan is more on the back in line with the auger.

I literally punched the cage with my fist and the fan started turning and worked the rest of the cook. Later after it all cooled I sprayed it lightly with WD40 that did the trick.
Did you check the connection?
If so then check the ohms on it
