Wondering if I should be adjusting this?

Bottom of cap to top of stack is 5/8 inch.

I watched a YouTube video where the guy was saying that the Stack had to be pretty much wide open during the ignition stage. That makes sense.
But then once when lit and smoking under way you could crank it back. Which I’ve been doing and so far so good.

I always leave my lid open during ignition (I thought I read somewhere that it was the proper thing to do), so I wouldn't imagine that also having the stack cap open would make a difference.

Yea, good point. I've been doing the same thing to with the door, then once ignited shutting it. I crank the top back a bit then after it hits the desired temperature.

You start up with the lid OPEN! once you hear the roar of the fire and you know it is lit, (burning pellets) you can close the lid and set the temperature wherever you want. It's a good idea to leave the lid open for about 10 minutes before you close it or set temp.
The cap does not matter at that point.
I have used my smoker with the cap all the way down and with the cap completely off, it does not seem to matter, so I leave it partially open
