Spray paint on Pit Boss Pro 1150 flame broiler

I just picked up a used Pit Boss Pro 1150 flame broiler that is basically brand new, but it looks like because of rust someone sprayed black spray paint on the flame broiler to try to hide the rust. The guy I bought it from was a liquidator that gets things from Home Depot and Lowes so he didn't know too much about it except that it powered on. So, I'm not sure what kind of spray they used but when I did a burn off you could definitely smell some fumes coming from the unit. I'm a little worried about cooking on it and ingesting the chemicals. So, should I be worried and what would be the best method to get the paint off the flame broiler? Or should I just pay 100+ dollars and get a new one?

I personally wouldn’t take any chance. I’d just bite the bullet and buy a new broiler. Or get paint stripper to remove everything then wash that with dish soap then a burn off.

I'd turn it up to high run it up 500° and let it run till you don't smeel it any more
