That's what I did. I'm not sure what that thing is doing in there in the first place. Just remember, if and when you want to use the sear function (I never do) just move the firepot mod piece over to the right or take it out completely.

Worked great! Across the entire drum I had a variance of 5 degrees from the control board.

Nice I should try that heat diffuser over the fire pot. I really couldn’t figure out what that flimsy piece of metal was for anyways seems to only catch pellet dust that’s the only thing I noticed with that. I had the other mod that goes on the left by the temp probe. I took that one out recently and like it better without it. My grill was running hotter for some reason with it and decreased the smoke output.
