Pit Boss probes are garbage. They are never right. Your best best is to buy an external Bluetooth thermometer.

So you aren’t using the deflector for over the fire pot or the one that goes on the side by the probe? Or just that stock deflector plate on the bottom under the drip pan? I was thinking you had the mod deflectors that can be bought.View attachment 1997
I removed the deflector while deep cleaning and instantly I have correct temps. Hopefully it holds true with higher temps.
I removed the deflector under the drip pan. It was causing heat to shoot towards the thermometer and making it read higher. So far 250.00 is holding steady. Higher temps are only off 20f which is much better than the 50f+ differential. So you aren’t using the deflector for over the fire pot or the one that goes on the side by the probe? The sear function still works the same since it is direct heat, but the temps are extremely wild now. Depending on how much meat is in the smoker it will cause even wilder temp fluctuations or heating issues. The heat shield seems to keep heat more even in the racks except on the sides where it blasts the temp probe. The heat shield left side mod device seems to be the way to go.I haven’t tried running my 1150 without that. It seems like it catches a lot of the pellet ash. I have the mod that I bought over on the left side by the probe. My temps are closer than without it but seems to actually run like 20 degrees hotter from what the controller says. So if I’m running at like 180 I’m actually at 200 all the way on the right side. That’s using oven thermometer on the grates. So it’s prolly not that accurate but gives me a reference. It’s a little less hotter all the way to the right. To me it seems like the heat gets pushed to the right more. I thought about taking it out and seeing if it really makes a difference. The mod that is. I wonder what the heat shield that’s under the drip is designed to do. Let me know if ur sear function still works the same.
