Yesterday, tried to use my Pitboss 820 it started then stopped after it was smoking blew the GFI. This is the same GFI I've run ghis grill on for several years. Cleaned the auger assembly etc, that is running much smoother now.

Tried again, blew GFI, tried another non-GFI ckt, worked fine.

Disconnected the igniter tried GFI, did not blow the ckt.

Reconnected the igniter started the smoker again and it blew the GFI.

Assuming the igniter was still running when it tripped.

I'm thinking replace the igniter, thinking go ahead and replace both motors while i got it apart.

Any insight?

John

are you using an extension cord? I've had that trip my GFI. Any sign of wear on power cord?

Nope, replaced the cord a few years back with a 12 gauge cord approximately 8 feet long.

Good question...

Sound like the ignitor, might have a crack in it, causing a small short, (shunted) regular circuit wouldn't trip. But a GFI being more sensitive picks up on it and will trip.
Let us know how you made out.

New igniter arrived: Hot Rod Ignitor Kit for Pit Boss... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088NG2NJ6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Getting the burn cup out is a pain. Anyway, grill is working great again.
