Clean out pellets

Just got my Lexington and the first effort was excellent. I'n looking at information about cleaning out pellets I noticed that everything I've seen mentions just pushing the pellets out the side using your hand. The Lexington has shield over the bin that makes using hands problematic. Remove the shield is not a big deal. The question is: Do I just leave the shield off or is there a better way? (Maybe Pit Boss could have a hinged option.)
Welcome and congrats!! 🍻 I have 2 smokers. Removed the grid from both. Got tired of using a stick through the holes. I’m smart enough to not dig down in the hopper while it’s running so problem solved. Happy Smokin’!!

I removed mine. It's not necessary.

Do you have kids?
I have a yuge screw driver that I used before I took out the barrier device. I couldn't use my shop vac with it installed either.
At work Chef bought a new boat motor stick blender (36"). That joker has like 3 child proof devices, pain in my azz. I grew up with yuge TVs on tv trays, no helmets for bike riding, lathes, drill presses and aluminum housed skilsaws, idk, somehow we made it this far.

The Lexington does have a drain port on the back, and a stick can be used to push the pellets out adequately enough.

I cut the idiot safety grate out, leaving the square frame because it contains a small storage pocket on the Lexington, plus I added a small Hopper extender.

Both of my pellet grills have yuge extension boxes.
