Firmware Update for Pit Boss Pro Series 850?

Sure here's a video instead, when I talked to Pit Boss last week with questions one was about the controller and what if I got an old one. He said we'll send you an updated one he knew I was talking about the 850PS2 he Aldo said all controller after May will be the new version, Hope this helps

It was too big so I pit picture I'll do them again, after 300 it goes up 25 at a time

Yes, I bought it at Lowes $499., 2 meat probes, 20 lbs hopper.
I couldn't tell you for sure if there has been a firmware upgrade as well but as you see I have the 10 degree intervals so I would assume software too. Maybe the 850 isn't plagued by all of the problems of the 1150. Mine even if it's just the 10 deg increments that's changed I start it out lid open when the thick smoke goes away crank it to 350, after I hit 300-350 I turn it down to the temp I want it will hold all day like that and nice puffs of smoke when the auger drops pellets.
If the guy tells you that the 850 doesn't have 10 degree settings he doesn't know what he's talking about. You've seen mine how can they deny that exists?,

Sorry Dude, I Don't know what to tell you. I guess PB doesn't want to have to face replacing them all. Check Lowes maybe they can turn one on and check theirs.
a little more convincing to PB then "some Guy on the forum said" or maybe they know something. I believe a guy on FB said they were sending him one, he was hoping it was updated. Maybe you can find a defect in yours that would get a replacement sent to you.
 
OK.. update...this is true I called back 3 times talking about how someone else's is and they said nope. Last person I spoke after talking to other tech stated yes there is a new control board. They are sending me one in the mail and I keep the old one. No more mailing back and forth

This is something that should have been done from the git go. When the 850 and 1150 first came out I almost got one then decided to wait and see what others said. Then when the PID controllers only went up by 25 degrees I decided not to get one (not like I need another grill anyway). But I am glad they are fixing the issue but still - they should've done this before releasing the product. When my old PB grill dies I'll be looking at the 850 or 1150 and as suggested may turn it on at the store to see if it has 10 degrees or 25. But hopefully I won't need one for a few more years.

The only thing that errked me was that it took 3 calls till I got an agent to really put the time in to figure out what was going on and finding out that yes there is a new controller and that the agents have not been told. But in saying that the fact that they are sending me a new controller and can keep my old one as a back up is amazing

Thanks for insight, did they agree to send it without hassle? Reluctantly? Does it solve the temp control limits below 300?
 
called Pit Boss today to see if I can get one of the new controllers for my 850 pro series.
They said there is no such thing, so I begged to differ, and she put me on hold to speak with the powers that be.
they said there is no update or new controller for the 850, only the 1150 and 1600.
so I said I can send some pics of an 850 controller with the 10* increments. ( thanks @alanlosch )
she said to send them and she will try to get back to me later.

I went through the same thing until I spoke to my 3 agent and she said after putting me on hold for 10 or so minutes that she learned something new today and agreeded there is a new controller. She took my address and is sending me one in the mail. I would call back again and see what another agent says
 
So I called again and they said nobody there has heard of a new or update for the 850 controller.
I asked why do we have to play the game of calling back to try to get a different agent who might know something different.
Also asked why we customers know more about what's available then Pit Boss employees?
After a 5 minute hold they told me if I ship my controller to them they will update it for me so it has the 10* increments.
They said the only new controllers available are on the new 850 models being shipped to Lowe's, (really?)
I have to pay for the shipping to them and they will pay to ship it back to me.
Fair enough, I have two spare controllers so I won't be without a grill.
