Gift for Husband

Yeah I have 3. Pit Boss grill 340 (an old model which is kind of small) a Pit Boss Copperhead vertical and a gas grill. Use the gas grill for quick cooks. If I do frozen burgers I put them on the PB 340 grill.

When doing frozen burgers I do them like this and they turn out awesome

I have the Pit Boss Platinum KC Combo. The main reason I got it was because it comes with a flat top insert for the gas side. I've enjoyed it so far and in the 3 months I have it, I've used all the features many times with great success with very little knowledge! I added a smoke tube for more flavor.
I smoke steaks and chops and then sear them at the end. I've also done a ton of smashburgers on the flat top.

That’s why I was curious about the combo grills and if that was a better way to go.
I have the pro series combo and very happy with it, can fit a lot of food on it but even better size if just the wife and I, picked up a camp chef single griddle insert and also use that on the gas side so literally is the do all. Son in law has combo as well and very happy with it. I also have a larger one and it's great as would likely get rid of the natural gas grill and go with another combo myself if there was a natural gas option. Really depend how often you will cook more food than the combo can comfortably cook. I have smoke 4 large slabs of ribs on the combo and it was certainly doable, but a little crowded. But at the same time I had corn and potatoes going on the gas side, and the ability to have different temps, etc. was great!

Like TJSlayer said above I have several different grills smokers, I love my Louisiana pellet grill never had an issue at all. I have done everything from fish to brisket on it and its turned out great. The fire box is on one end and I really like that . I picked mine up at costco.

Just a warning he will eventually want a vertical smoker for different types of smoking.

Hi there! I’m looking at buying a smoker for my husband as a gift but I’m having a hard time comparing the models (I’m not knowledgeable myself) He wants something to make brisket / ribsn but also something that he can do steaks as well. He does like some bells and whistles.

Im not as worried about cost as I am that I don’t get him something that he wants to upgrade in a few years. I’d rather get something nice now that will last.

I know he wants to purchase locally and has mentioned pitboss so that’s what I’m focusing on. I think they’re also affiliated with Louisiana Grills so I’d be open to those as well if that would be a better option.

I’d really appreciate any help/suggestions as this is just not something I know a lot about and searching online seems to just confuse me more. Thanks!
I would go with with the 1600 pro elite and it comes with a griddle plate and two oven style racks you will not regret the xtra room I love mine

Hi Heather.
Lots of great advice here but one thing everyone hasn't noticed is where you are located, Alberta! In winter, especially an AB winter, using a smoker isn't easy. A combo grill like the Pit Boss KC Platinum Combo would be the best solution for your husband given its bells and whistles and the option of a gas grill/BBQ. I am in Toronto and use the Pit Boss 4 series pro (PBV4PS1) and this past winter was rough using the smoker. Cooking times and maintaining temps was a real mess. Also, searing certain meats after smoking is a huge plus. Good luck

Yes, we’re crazy cold here as we’re a lot farther North. I think I’ve got to plan for one that’s well insulated and maybe even look at the blanket as well. Ill have to look at the combo in person was I was wondering if it would just not have enough space on the smoker side.

I also have the 820 Deluxe and it is great! I would get one with WiFi (didn't have that when I bought mine). Pit Boss makes a great grill and they listen to their customers on the upgrades and new models.

I sure like my Pit Boss 1150 Pro Series. No grill/ smoker is perfect. But everything I have cooked on the 1150 has turned out great.
