Heat Diffuser Dimensions

It goes over the pot and blocks the flames from the sliding gate! works amazingly!!
Why don't you just close the sliding grates and save $41.00?

closing the sliding gate still gives the grill hot spots and cold spots I got some thick aluminum plate at work and Im going to make the diffuser and then do the biscut test and try to get even temp across the cooking grates.. The middle over the sliding plate is really hot compared to the left and right side. And the flew side is about 50 degrees different. I think the temp probes that come with the 820 sportsman are horrible. I have 4 temp probes going and nothing is even close to the same temp. I will take a picture of the plate and the biscuits after the test. I love this smoker but you really have to keep an eye on it during the cook.

Smoke Daddy sells a really great diffuser that actaully lets you put stick wood. Reviews seem to say it does a great job at giving that offset taste.

I have it and it's fantastic!

I have seen those and its a good set up. Im going to make my own diffuser and see how it works before I spend any more money. I have no problem getting smoke flavor infused into the meat right now. I will have to look at it closer because I have a large peice of aluminum plate to work with and might be able to make the whole heavy D thing out of it.

I made my diffuser for the pit boss 820 sportsman and I think it should work fine, will see. Its 4 1/2" tall and 5" wide and 11" long. I think the problems with these grills are the sear plate pitch of maybe 15 degrees that allows the grease to run off. I think the fire and heat actually travels back towards the built in temp gauge and throws it off and thats why the diffuser works over the fire pot. Mine sits right on the pot plate and hopefully will direct the heat towards the right side of the grill instead of towards the temp gauge. I am going to do the biscuit test and burn off the thick aluminum plate I made to see if it needs any modification. 50 to 75 degrees difference from 1 side to the other is way to much to cook anything consistent. I bought this so I would not have to watch it all the time but thats not the case. Hopefully this mod will change things. Wish me luck!

Just remember it's not a set it and forget it, I always monitor and have an eye on my smoker or grill or stove/oven.

When I fire it up I also fill it up. My last smoke I had 3 slabs of baby backs and 8 hamburgers. Then I went with 17 chicken legs and 10 chicken strips I had to keep shifting things around because the right side ( where the stack is) was way cooler than the left by a lot! I raised the sear plate up with a hook and wire and it immediately came up. But of course you cant run it that way or you will get a grease fire. I love sitting out back and watching the smoke roll out but I just would like more even temps in the barrel from one side to the other.

Does anyone one know the dimensions to heat diffuser? I just bought a PB second handed, and never owned a PB or a pellet smoker. Its my understanding the model I have needs that Diffuser in order to regulate the temps.

I would greatly appreciate it.

If anybody is in the North East Alabama area and makes them, let me know as well.

I just traced out the left end of the plate on to a peice of cardboard for a template. Pretty simple, traced it to a peice of sheet metal I had and cut.

What size is yours? Smokedaddy makes one for the curved sear plate like my 820 sportsman but I got another one from another company and the sear plate makes it stand up higher. There are plenty out there to order just be sure you get the right one.

they do make one. Look at the bottom of your page. Its the flame tamer. I made one out of heavy gauge aluminum and it worked great! Best control of the heat I ever had. Then like an idiot I turned it up to 500 degrees to do a burn off. The temp climbed to over 600 degrees and it had melted the aluminum. Nothing was damaged but it sucks. I bought the one pictured but the 13" wide does not allow the curved sear plate to fit properly but it still works. I am going to make another one out of aluminum and NOT turn the heat up after smoking!
