Hey Y'all,
I'm still lurking here trying to decide which PB model, if any, I am going to buy.
Had originally set myself on the the pro-series2 exclusive at Lowes ($499)
Space is not an issue, as I am still a dedicated WSM smoker and am looking at a smoker to replace an aging Masterbuilt Electric.
I'm trying to decipher which models are newest and make a smart decision. FWIW, I am a broadcast engineer and sell broadcast cameras that are sometimes built or designed in Asia.
I understand the latest isn't always the best, and things like controllers go through growing pains, redesigns, and firmware updates.
I've tried my best to get a grasp on the PB hierarchy,.
I've recently been also looking at the sportsman 5 series. I don't need the extra space but am gravitated to a unit with the controller on the side versus the bottom.
I went thru growing pains with Masterbuilt electronics, which finally confirmed their top mounted controllers had issues with high heat (go figure)
As I stated in my introduction, I prefer buying from a vendor *(or store) I don't want to go through repackaging and returns if i get a damaged in shipping unit, whereas I can refuse a damaged unit, or one with a faulty door that is assembled and presented to me for pickup at Lowes. I'm at least 150 miles from the closest Academy which also offers free assembly.
Will to accept suggestions and guidance. I look forward to sharing my experience and cooks here, as I am also a regular on the smokingmeat.com forums.
