So last night I tried out the meatstick probes I got on a meatloaf. These are the new gen 4x probes
First observations are good.
I pulled the first probe out of the charger/ extender, opened the app and it hooked up almost instantly. I stuck it into the top of the meatloaf at a 45deg angle. The temp started to move and a couple of minutes later the ambient temp probe in the exposed end started showing on the app.
I stuck the 2nd probe into the top at 45deg opposite the other one. It opened in the app and started climbing. It peaked with a lag of maybe 10 degrees for a while and then pretty much matched the temp of the other probe within a degree. It must of been lagging until the entire probe came to temp.
The ambient temp was another thing entirely.
I need to play with the placement and see if that was part of what I saw. The temp was well below what the smoker was set at, by 50 to 60 degrees. I tossed a one of the pitboss probes on the grate and it matched the main temp display so the meatstick was reading low. The 2 sticks read ambient about 15 degrees off of each other although they were within 4 inches of each other.
The IT seemed pretty much spot on although I didn't check it against a wired probe. I pulled it at 155 and it was done right.
I'll update with today's pork loin run later.
