New to pellet smokers

A pork butt is one of the easiest, most forgiving things you can smoke. But 1" slices of pork butt are really pork steaks and should be smoked in a different way. I don't believe they can be used for pulled pork. I'm afraid you'll dry out a 1" pork steak before you get its IT up to 205ish.

My sister lives just south of Charlotte. Sounds like y'all are gonna be getting some rain this week...
Yesterday I did a beef pot roast cut, Sam's had them in 2 packs Each one was about 2" thick. I stacked them together and tied them with pink butcher paper.I have done a couple withoutstacking them and they dried out a bit. Stacking resulted in some good shreded pit beef.

Redoctapus, You definitely have some Major League smoke, lol. 40 lbs of brisket and unlimited supply of BBQ sandwiches daily until they run out is the Major Leagues. That's where I want to get, so if I don't get the bike moved tomorrow, Im just going to build an 8 X 8 shed and insulate it with welding blankets and call it "The Smokin Kitchen."
Sweet Ride! I think there is some BBQ sauce dripped on your tank...
Harley's do not push with air in the tires let alone flat. Mine rolled kinda easy one time... I broke a belt!

Hello

I've grilled for all of my adult life. Until 2004, it was strictly propane. At that point, I bought a Weber Performer kettle and never touched another gas grill. In 2014 I bought a Masterbuilt 30" electric smoker. I enjoyed using it and had a lot of luck with it - butts and turkey breasts, mostly. But I always envied those pics of smoke rings! Over the years I got too busy and the smoker sat in the backyard and rusted away. The Weber, on the other hand, seems to be built like a tank. Even though I don't use it much anymore, it's still in great shape.

Recently retired. My BIL just bought a Pro850 from Lowes and I was intrigued by it. So I've been watching for deals and I just found tabletops at Walmart on clearance. It's just me and the pup so I figured it would be big enough, at least to start. I bought one for myself and one for my son. Now I have something that should make those beautiful smoke rings I've seen pics of and read so much about. Cant wait to get some pork steaks or a butt on there!
How do I start a new conversation? The conversation form says I have to add a "to"recipient. Does it send the conversation to the person's I name, or does it make it a conversation to all the members like this one where everyone can comment?

If you want to create a public post that everyone can see, you need to go to the "Forums" tab at the top of the screen. Then select a Forum to go into it. At that point, you can create a message that anyone can see.

A conversation is more or less private between two or more members.

I generally access this group from a PC. So my directions are from that standpoint. It might be slightly different if you are coming in from a smart phone or tablet.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have other questions. I'll try to answer as best I can...

Does that start a brand new converstaion, like this one with a new title? Or will it connect me in an existing file?

That would start a brand new conversation (also known as a "thread") like this one. Is that what you want to do? Or are you trying to contact a specific member?

Yep, I'm in Raleigh and we had more outages here than anywhere north of Florida. A large oak fell on the building across the lot from me (I'm in a townhouse-style condo), fortunately it's all exterior damage, not catastrophic and our HOA shold be able to cover it via insurance.

Good point on the steak. I'm trying a pork loin roast (really 2 smaller roasts) and I'm hoping not to overcook it.
