Howdy Guys/Gals, Complete novice here. After hearing my son and SIL talk about smoking for years, I finally decided to jump into the game at the young age of 70! So I bought a Masterbuilt 40". Smoked my first rack of baby backs and they turned out great, but I didn't particularly care for the ergonomics of cooking on a vertical smoker. So, fueled by a Costco sale and impulse, I bought a PB Navigator 850GW. Did a small shoulder as my first victim and it turned out great too. Love the 850 except for two issues (impulse got in the way of research LOL). First, the controller increments are 25/50. Sure would be nice to have 10-degree increments. I'm sure this won't be a big deal once I get more experience. And secondly, it has WiFi capability but my home network is 5 GHz and the grill requires it to be 2.4.

So much for my introduction, looking forward to learning a lot on the forum and I'll contribute when (and IF) I have constructive comments.

Welcome from Canada, best site to learn the ropes to Pit Boss cooking. I have learned alot of great ideas and useful info on this site. I barely use my indoor cooking appliances anymore, got two Pit Bosses, a 150pps, and a 440 with a hopper extension. Do lots of "RV'ing" during the year, and they both come with me.

I had that problem with my Pit Boss 1600, my router is dual band also I called my cable provider ( Cox Cable ) and they made the necessary adjustments right from their hub the network is now labeled 2.4 but I have the option of switching if needed BUT every thing I have operates on 2.4.

Update:

Called Cust Service about the controller increments. Mine is 200,225,250,300,350,400,450,H. There isn't a 275 setting. The rep I spoke with said that was incorrect and she was on the verge of sending me a new controller until she tested on some units they had and all of them skipped 275. She confirmed with several others that 275 was not available. I'll be fine working between 250 -300 if/when necessary.

My router is dual band but they gotta come out next week to properly set it up.
