No Hope for Pit Boss

Just bought my husband this grill last Father's day. Had it replaced once because lowes put it together wrong. Two nights ago it almost blew my husband's face off. Pit Bosses response " OH well" if Lowe's wants to replace it that's on them. We wont!! No concern whatsoever for safety of the consumers.
Only thing I can think of is it may have been started with the lid closed. Always leave it open until the smoke clears.

Disappointing. Originally was going to wait out the controller supply issues, but think I'm going to go another direction entirely and try the Char-griller 980.

After a year my Austin XL is working great. No flame outs, fires, blown fuses or any problems at all. I don’t need PID, wi-fi and could care less about temp swings. I love the hot spot in the middle for getting some color on the meat and consider it advantageous and work around it. Flavor is acceptably smoky for chicken and ribs. Don’t throw a rack of ribs right in the middle and leave it for hours. It’s the best $300 cooker I have! Those that are having problems I can understand their frustrations and hope PB makes good on their warranty. For those looking at PitBoss I recommend and Austin XL from Walmart especially at clearance price.

I am not worried about his remarks as he does not understand the terms of what I was expressing about Pit Boss. In reality I love there product, but like all companies they have to stand by the product and listen to the consumer that purchases it. Pit Boss has there problems and they are slowly coming together and addressing some of the issues.

The post was an old thread and he just upset that one of his buddies that was in this forum was removed due to his behavior and obliviously he acts just like him so that explains it.

I love the mechanical portion of the PB S4 V2....there is not a better built smoker in the sub $400 price range period! It is a beast....with the removable ash cup....pellets chute....love the black grates....easy to clean....and built like a tank!

BUT....the PID controller just SUCKS.....plain and simple. If they would just correct that portion...the rest would be perfect. You all know I replaced mine with a Rec Tec....and it has been perfect...not a single issue whatsoever....it is amazing and I love it.

I did just get the portable version (150PPS)....and it back-fed fire into the auger and smoked up the pellet feeder during the burn-in.....so that is not a good sign. But after I got that straight...it worked great.....so I am with you on weak design points in the newer smokers. I believe the fan is undersized...and auger might be a tad too short...and the burn pot is not deep enough. Also....there is no way to run the auger without the fan and igniter on.....so it is hard to get those burning pellets out without stoking more of a fire. I am going to wire up a relay/switch to run the auger when the unit is plugged in but in the off position.
