Pit Boss 4 Vertical pellet smoker heats well past set temp

Found the smoker paused mid-cook with "Auger" flashing and couldn't get it to do anything. Unplugged it, and upon powering it back up, the auger is making a grinding noise it never made before and when setting the temp to 225 it went from 69 to 286 and climbing within minutes. Advice?
