Very few pellets are not blended with other hardwoods. You can google and find some that say they are but they are pricey and you heve to pay shipping.
Ah ok so when Pitboss says hickory blend is it safe to say while it has other woods in it that hickory is the most of that blend?

Wood pellets are exclusive to pellet grills. Pit Boss® hardwood pellets are made from 100% all-natural hardwood that is dried and ground into saw dust. The dust is then pressurized at extreme heat to create the compact pellets that are coated and held together with the wood’s natural lignin. Wood pellets are also known as the easiest fuel to use. They produce less than 1% of ash, so an entire 40lb bag of pellets will only turn into ½ cup of ash, which makes clean up a breeze. They also provide immense flavor without needing to think about babysitting the air to fuel ratio like with wood chips or chunks.
Found this on Pitboss site.

Is that you saying that or is that from Pitboss, doesn’t really say how much of the blend oss what I s the flavor on the bag

From looking at videos and googling, I think Pitboss uses 100 % of the same wood. The blend is the process of grinding and then using pressure and heat to make the pellet. Just guessing. I saw that some manufacturers add flavor being they add different woods to their pellets.

wood flavor profile is a preference to the person smoking .I prefer mild smoke flavor on most of my meats im not the hickory guy its very harsh to the taste buds ,I have tried many mixes but still prefer the strait wood cherry ,maple ,apple for the flavors it brings to the meat .its been two years since I purchased my PB and am still playing with the flavors they seem to bring a new one out all the time

It was copied off PitBoss site. It was them saying this.
so they are claiming their hickory blend is just hickory, if that's the case then just say hickory, the blend is misleading makes it seem like its hickory blended with maybe another wood.

I'm new to pellets with my PB 3 Series Vertical Smoker. I started with the Competition Blend as it was recommended by many here and on YouTube. I really like it. I do find it odd that they don't state an approximate percentage of each component in the blend. I realize that it may vary but it would seem that they would have target percentages and could let us know with a disclaimer. The bag shows Hickory, Maple, and Apple Blend. Would be nice to know if the target is 50-25-25, 34-33-33, etc. That would at least give us enough info and versatility to determine whether we wanted to mix in more of something to have better control over the flavor profile. (Although it's not as bad as when motor oil states "Synthetic Blend". That could be only 5% synthetic!)
