Reaching temp issues.

I had bought a oven thermometer like one of you have suggested. When the thermometer reached 250 degrees the control panel was saying 200 degrees. But it still took an hour to reach that temp. My local Walmart didn't have any kind of pellets so tomorrow I'll look near where I work. I'll give Pit Boss a call tomorrow and ask what kind of thermostat probe I'll need. And if they have any suggestions about getting to actual temp. If nothing they suggest works, then I'll just have to start replacing parts. If that doesn't work then I'll just have to work with what I got. Thank you guys for the help!

I believe since you have the PID controller it may take some time for it to "learn". Once it learns what it needs to do it should heat up faster. Someone who owns one can chime in.

I called pit boss they said the next step is to replace control panel. Since I got the grill from a friend it’s going to be about $120 after shipping. Right now I’ve been running the grill for two hours to try and smoke a pork butt. I have not been able to get the grill above 150 degrees even with the oven thermometer inside the grill. And I keep getting an ERL code about every 30 minutes. I replaced the pellets with new pellets. So I’m just gonna have to cut the butt into steady pieces and cook it with what heat I’ve got. I’ve tried to leave the lid open on initial start then close it when the white smoke dissipates. Then turn the heat up high then lower it to desire temp. But it still won’t go above 150 could it possibly the cold weather it only says it’s 29 degrees. Any other suggestions from you guys? I’m all out of ideas and don’t have the money to replace the control panel.

Have the friend that gave it to you get the controller if it's under 5 years old and shipped to him.

I have thought about asking that but I wasn’t sure if it will work because he had to send a confirmation code to release the grill to me when I was trying to use the Smoke IT app.
