SMOKE IT app issues

Deleted and replaced the app, but still can't connect to Wifi. Will be calling their support to see what they can do. Appreciate the advice though.
The controller won't connect to 5Ghz -- only the 2.4. Are you able to separate the two, and connect only to 2.4? My smoker is pretty far away from the house - I installed an extender for 2.4 only and it works.

Interesting. Thanks. Apparently my router decides which frequency to use. I'm told that 5G is for things that are close. My smoker isn't terribly close... I'd guess about 40 feet or more by the closest angle and the signal has to go through two walls. With the previous setup I could select the frequency. But to my knowledge I can't with this one. Something to keep in mind.

I do have a connection now but it seems to take a long time to connect. Haven't had a chance to try from a distance. Appreciate the input.

I ended up getting a new controller and it connected immediately. Initially, I tried all sorts of things with no luck, including calling support. The guy was nice -- but, he was not a techie - it seemed like he was running off a checklist.

Really necessary? Maybe not. Highly advised? Yes. View a couple of them on YT as they blow the lid off and you might consider it. Mine has raised the lid a time or two, when I was too lazy to bother. Now I do it religiously. Just my $.02

Apparently the newer routers know what connection is needed and do that automatically. Meaning 5 vs 2.4. So maybe that.
The only buggieness I’ve run into is now and then throughout a smoke the smoker and the app lose connectivity. And then reconnect themselves in a little bit. Haven’t figured that one out yet..

My controller is relatively new. But the IT app worked fine on it until I changed routers. It is working now but seems awfully slow. Will have to play with it more before calling their support.

Could be jumping between 5 and 2.4? I have no way of checking, at least none that I'm aware of. On the old modem I could select one or the other. Still want to try the app from a distance. Tender loins came out great yesterday.

I haven’t researched how 2.4 and 5 are handled by these models. Our son gave us his router and it was during hook up i learned about how it was done automatically. We’ve been running the one he gave us almost a year now and no problems with all my devices. My occasional issues with the app and the smoker may be more internet related, our service from our provider is buggy.

Shouldn't. From what I have read and after speaking to tech support - it has the 2.4 transceiver chip in it, so it can't connect to 5. I don't know how much I believe that the problem is in the router, as the controller would only be able to connect to the 2.4 on the router. I imagine there could be instances in the software of the router that could prevent connection, but I don't understand the point of that. You might as well have two separate access points. I bought the extender only because our outdoor kitchen is farther away and I there was no way to tell how strong the signal was from the controller.

Have you flushed the cache and files for the app, the uninstalled the app - then reinstall?

Have uninstalled and reinstalled but haven't checked the cache. Will have to take a look next time I have it running. Thanks
