Just finally assembled and was curious if any advantage or would it stop the minimum require air flow ? But yes would cold weather be a reason for slowing the air movement ?

No different than a stick burner
The more you have it open you’ll get more air flow.
In cold weather and higher than normal winds I’ll close it up a little
