Temps so far off!

How would that affect the temps?
All of these controllers, even PID types over shoot the set temp, they read the rate of increase vs fuel added.
If you ditch the app and dial in 300F manually see what happens but be patient. Once you have achieved a steady "300" walk it down to 250 manually, just to check out the controller without the app.
If the smoker works manually you will have isolated the problem as just the app. Also try a half pan of water with tight lid as ballast.

I think the manual method is in 5 degree increments. O

No, manual method has 200, 250, 300. No smaller increments.
I’m trying to see if there’s a horizontal controller that can replace the Pit Boss controller. I haven’t found on yet.

Sorry I couldn't help, Cowboy may be familiar with your grill.

I have the airgap plate installed and am waiting on the 4-window flame tamer that sits on top of the fire pot. I'll run a test once I get that and see where it's at. I'll post results here once I do that.

Get the air gap and flame diffuser mods from smokes like a boss. I have both on mine and with a little tweaking, you can get the temps evened out quite nicely.
Smokes like a boss shows the flame difuser as not compatible with the combo 1100 series. I asked what prevents it from working on the combo 1100 series. I’m waiting on a response.

I am having similar issues on my 1100 pro series with the Smokes Like a Boss flame tamer and deflector installed. The built in probe is reading 50-75 degrees lower than the one I have placed in the middle of the upper rack. I know they won’t read the exact same but I figured they’d be closer. The built-in probe has been cleaned.

I just found something out today as I was smoking that might help everyone out! My temps was off by 75 to 100 degrees different than my temp probe about 6 inches away from the barrel probe. I always thought that the temp probe only worked at the end of the probe, BOY was I WRONG!!! I started pushing the rest of the leftover wire into the smoker hole and it started rising immediatly! almost to the exact temp of the barrel probe. If you have a lot of the wire hanging out try pushing as much in the smoker as possible and see if it changes anything. It made a huge difference to mine.

Fellow smokers, I have the PB1150PS2, and like others I was having issues with inconsistent and inaccurate temps inside the grill v. the set temp on the controller. So I decided to do a small experiment and I was SHOCKED to find that the inside of my smoker was running more than 100° hotter in spots than the set temp. I'm attaching pics here, the first shows the 5 probes I set (I have the Chugod iBBQ 6X), spaced pretty well apart. The next 2 pics show the temp inside the smoker, which was set on the controller at 250°.

So I took the advice offered by others and bought both the 4 Window Flame Tamer and the Heat Deflector/Airgap Mod from Smokes Like a Boss - by the way Tom is a great guy, super friendly and helpful. I set up the Flame Tamer and the Airgap Mod, and the next 2 pics show the results. Probes set in same locations with controller set to 250° and the temps were very much within reason and SO much better than before. Really excited to smoke a spatchcocked turkey for Thanksgiving!
I have a PB1600PS1...I saw on YouTube about doing a biscuit test. You buy a cheap tube of biscuits (8 in the tube). Spread them out eveningly on your grill. Set the temp to 350 and cook with lid down for 14 minutes. Lift up the lid and turn over all 8 biscuits. They will be different colors and that will tell you where your hot spots and low spots are. Fun experiment.

I did this and it works very well in telling you the best place to cook and not cook! I did this with my regular diffuser plate and then put my flame diffuser I made and the difference was night and day! My diffuser I made got all the bisquits the same color all across the grates front to back. they were golden brown and my wife tried them out by putting honey on the biscuits and ate them. They were so good that the next day I put more on for biscuits and gravy. Nothing like hickory smoked biscuits and gravy. The biscuits really soak up the hickory smoke!

The difuser is too tall.
I bought one for my 820 sportsman and it was way to tall because it was so wide. My curved diffuser plate with the sear piece in the middle would not fit right at all. I took the flame tamer deflector and cut the middle out and added it to each side and it fits perfect after a lot of measuring here is what it looks like now. I bought a cheap one off of amazon instead the smoke like a boss one.
