Wifi Bluetooth connectivity issues

If you're using Bluetooth to connect to your grill, I recommend looking at your permissions settings for the app first. Ensure all permissions are granted (No frigging clue why PB would make an app that requires permissions to your entire phone in order to work). But whatever. Once you've done that, restart your app, create your profile, and you're good to go. NOTE: If you are connecting via Bluetooth, your "IT" light will continue to flash. As long as the temp on your grill and your phone match, you ARE connected. Hope that helps.

I have some issues too and i'll explain what i've done and seen so far.

The app seems to only work perfectly if i'm right next to the grill, which seems to be it being connected via bluetooth. I'm using an Iphone.

The iphone connects via wifi and bluetooth but doesn't give updates over wifi even though it says it's connected. If i leave my home i can still connected via cell signal and the grll shows up but only displays the last info that was me connected via bluetooth. It doesn't give me an error or any other info saying it's not connected. The app does show wifi signal and the grill.

If I login and monitor the wifi grill (via my network router) , it's connected to my network with decent signal. I also noticed it downloaded 2mb worth of data right when i started it this morning and seems to be sending some sort of signal over my network but not to the app.

If i try and connected with my andriod phone, it also works perfectly fine if im right next to it connected via bluetooth. It refuses to connected if i'm on wifi and says there isn't a grill conencted. Whether i'm on the cell network, or my local wifi network it doesn't work. If i go outside and stand next to it, it will connected via bluetooth and work perfectly fine.

Now it’s working fine on both phones, even at the same time on cell and WiF lol.
I didn’t do
I also don’t know why it downloads so much info when it first starts. 15mb isn’t a small amount of data.

I do notice now the app has a cloud icon.

The problem is that the app is a piece of garbage outsourced so they apparently can't fit it. It insists on trying bluetooth before wifi even if you're way out of range, and there's no way to tell it not to try bluetooth. Mine will work fine for weeks then it gets into a mode where it never tried wifi ever again. The latest version of the app is even worst; it now doesn't show the grill temp in tehe home screen, and it never seems to try wifi. Why would it try to connect to bluetooth for 10 minutes? Who is writing this crap for them

I have the same issue as well. 1150ps2.
I've noticed that when I plug in the smoker it connects by itself to my wifi with an IP address. However a couple of hours later, my network still see's the smoker but no IP address is assigned.
Once it "loses" the IP address, it is impossible to connect or reconnect to the app.
This is with the new pitboss app.
Fortunately for me didn't really have an issue with the SmokeIT app.

Join the club, I have been trying to get mine to connect to Wi-Fi going on almost a year now and haven't been able to get it to connect not once. I even updated to the new version of the software and was able to let it do the firmware update via Bluetooth.
And in return for wasting another two hours fiddling with this nightmare, now Bluetooth won't even connect anymore.
Keeps giving me a message saying "Missing Characteristic 15" when I try and connect with blue tooth.

Worst implementation of IOT services I have ever seen.

I have a PB710T1 grill that was not wifi. I purchased the wifi control board from Pit Boss. Installation was very simple and everything seemed to work up to the point of trying to get the grill to connect through the Pit Boss app. My phone can see the grill in the bluetooth devices under settings but the app cannot see it. There is no way to use the app to just connect to the wifi without using bluetooth. I tried everything. Of course there was no one available at Pit Boss for customer service and their message just hangs up on you...they didn't even say that they were closed today...it just hangs up on you. Nobody was available in their support chat. My wife happened upon another controller that was identical to this one and they at least had instructions in the description. They used an app called Smarter Grill so I decided to give it a try...the app immediately saw the grill through bluetooth and prompted me to connect to wifi. It works although it seems fairly rudimentary...too bad Pit Boss doesn't have it together. I really like the pellet grilling but I doubt I will purchase from Pit Boss next time.

It’s Christmas Eve….i would say some grace would be nice for the support people at pit boss for the next few days. But you did buy one of the cheapest smoker on the market….if u want or expect better than maybe buy a RecTeq…,just saying.

My grill wont connect and app wont display my grill or anything.... The reviews on the playstore are terrible for the Smokeit app so im sure others are having issues too. Any suggestions?
I’m a computer dumb shit when it comes to these things. I wouldn’t know the first thing about uninstalling or installing apps. I’d probably lock the entire unit up so it wouldn’t even turn on anymore.
Had a similar problem and tried deleting grills on the anpp and reinstalling the app sans success. They are sending a new circuit board thinking the original is defective. I have another Lockhart that works perfectly.

I would expect a half day considering people might be buying grills and such to cook tomorrow. If they are gone for the day then their message should reflect that before they hang up on you. My wife gave the grill to me as a gift on Father's day. We aren't dumping $800+ on a grill that we weren't sure we would use and the grill cooks great.I am not happy with this POS app they push and then do not have any online support for.

I FIXED THE WIFI ISSUE. Here is the solution...

  • Whatever Pit Boss account you have on your app, delete it. The reinstall the app
  • Create a new account and password
  • Follow the steps to set-up your new grill
  • Be sure you have a wifi network dedicated for 2.5 mghz
  • Enter your wifi network name and password
  • Follow the app screen prompts

After I did the above, my smoker was connected and I was able to control it from my app

I hope this helps anyone who had the same problem that I had.

I have had a problem with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity and after some back and forth with technical support found that the problem was the fact that I have two Lockharts and the the software will only pair with one. They are supposed to be working on a solution and it should be available soon.

I returned the controller and got another...this one connected right up and then downloaded a firmware update. This one stays connected with no issues so far. I have a near commercial router that puts out a pretty strong signal so I would check that all depending on where the grill is at. I just got a bad one.
