I dropped this here rather than the inkbird sub because I want to talk about all the competition on this.
I'll be getting something after research and there are things I dont see so maybe you guys will have insight.
The players seem to be
Inkbird
Meater
Meatstick
Bluetooth coms are straight forward but the wifi coms leave me with serious questions.
Do the wifi coms run through servers at the manufacturers or a local IP com inside the wifi network? I intentionally do not have a smart home. I control my data and I do not alow anything as frivolous as a thermometer to talk servers at the mothership. (Another reason my PB is blinking , under the tape so i don'thave to watch it, my smoker does not need internet access)
Are there any actual US companies making this stuff? Meater seems to be UK and I need to look more deeply at Meatstick (Designed in the US). I was reading a bitch about their app "needing" location services to work. There is ZERO reasons for that outside of data collection.
