Thanks... I am telling my church member not to send his controller when he receives the return label. Pit Boss must have missed understood him or who knows especailly with PB Customer service, but that would have been terrible for him. Send a controller back and they sent it back saying it is not available for an update. Finally got through to pit boss, the very nice lady said that there is NO update for the 850 PRO SERIES, I asked her about the 1150 model that some people are sending their controllers in for re-programming and she said that it's a different controller and it has a different program that can be updated. Said the new increment settings are to help maintain the temperatures.
So she said all they can do is replace the controller but it would be exactly the same as original one.
So no luck with my 850 as far as better temperature increments.
She also asked me what my P setting was at.????
I told her it does not have a P setting and she said yes it does, now does anyone with a Pro Series PS2 have a P setting
I mailed mine off already so I will be the Test monkey. The representative did ask for my serial number before recommending me send it in so IDK but at this point what else can we do?Thanks... Now Pit Boss has 3 different PID controllers. 1. Platinum grills 2. 850 3. 1150 pretty bad business I have to say and I will tell you this after reading and discussing all of this chaotic cluster of mess from Pit Boss I will never buy Pit Boss grill again....never there is no excuse for that many different controllers and different software. Even the other big name pellet grill companies do not do it.
That's what is confusing to me, if someone from Pit Boss told him that it can be updated then I was hoping to see what the outcome would be after he reinstalled it.Thanks... But they tell me the 1150 can be upgraded and the 850 cannot so what's the real truth?
I have fixed the uneven temperatures but mine varies too much when on the S setting for smoke. it will be at 165 or 245 or somewhere in between.
Pit Boss is so clueless and I have no idea why they would do it. Yoder, Rec-Tec, Smoke Daddy, Traeger use the same PID on their pellet grills and does not matter what size the grill. It makes me more convinced everyday that I made the right choice buying my Yoder seriously I have not had a single issue.Seems stupid to me. Why would they make separate controllers for the 850 and 1150??
I sent two emails to them in November. Never heard a word back. Went back to work in January. I could not stand it any longer. I made the call, the lady that answered the phone said yeah, we got your emails, we will be sending you out two new probes. And we will keep you updated on any fixes for the controller. Well, got the probes. Have not heard anything about sending the controller in until I checked here. Customer service is sub- par in my opinion.funny, I have reported issues with mine and have not heard anything from them.
But they are sending me a new cover that has the same problem as the first one, draw strings don't work. I didn't ask for a new one, just pointed out that the draw strings don't work.
I would rather have a controller with proper temperature increments.
This doesn't work! Just tell them that you did it, and what you want your controller reprogrammed. I'd love to know who this worked for! I sent my controller off yesterday fro reprogramming. Here is the response to me via the tech support email
There has been an update to your case:
Hello,
If you're having issues with the grill holding temp on the lower settings, there is a 3 step burn off process we'd have you do. If after this you're still having issues, please let us know as we have a plan in place to reprogram the board.
If you do this in a single day, expect it to take about 5 hours.
Set the grill directly to 350 instead of Smoke and run it at that temp for 40 minutes. After that, drop the grill down to 200 and let it run for an additional 40 minutes. Shut the grill down and let it cool down. After that, turn the grill back on to 350 for another 40 minutes, then down to 225 for 40 minutes and shut it down again after that. Then start up to 350 for a final 40 minutes, then down to 250 for 40 minutes. After that's been done, the board should "learn" from that and your temps may be more in line. This will take a bit of time, but there have been quite a few people who've stated this works very well for them.
Please reply directly to this email or give us a callback if you have anymore issues.
Thank you!
If you would like to respond to this case, please reply to this email.
Will it add the 10 degree increments like the video says??
he got a all back from Pit Boss and they do not have a firmware update on the 850 controller.Thanks... I am telling my church member not to send his controller when he receives the return label. great news thanks for sharingNew to the pit boss scene! Just got my pro 850 grill put together yesterday and did one burn in. I noticed the app (iOS) said there was a firmware update and it was applying it... I was going to redo the burn in and follow the step process outlined - it’s a new grill and I wanted to play with it some more anyhow... but I was going to see if it allowed the new temps.
so doesn’t look like there’s a change to my temps. 200-225-250-300...great news thanks for sharing
