Pit Boss 1600 Pro Series won't connect to 64GHz wifi. Had to return it!!

Never heard of 6.4Ghz….but 90% of smokers on the market use 2.4Ghz. The reason is that the lower the frequency the further the travel of the signal. Also most companies are combining the 5G and the 2.4G “as a Smart connection”…..so most smokers have issues with connecting to these “smart” routers.

You can either work with the internet company to split apart the frequencies, or buy a repeater 2.4Ghz cheap router just for your IOT devices like smokers.

Not saying that the PitBoss 1600 is “the smoker” to buy….but most of them use the 2.4Ghz frequency….AND….that should be the last reason to pick a smoker is for the WiFi signal and not the Controller/Smoker capabilities and how well it makes Ribs and Pork Butt.

Well the fact that i paid to get the wifi capability should be enough reason for Pit Boss to fix this. I may never know what the unit is capable of. Im old fashioned i expect things to work as advertised.

I find it disturbing that the one fundamental feature that attracts a buyer to this brand doesnt work in several peoples units. Pit Boss needs to make a commitment to fix the units that have this flaw. Ive received no help directly from Pit Boss after ive contacted them and pretty sute they read the comments. Here on this forum! Solutions offered up here have been, at best, mediocre and people just compromise trying to make it work. Very disappointing.
e bright side is there’s folks in here that have been through every scenario on these grills
I agree with your comment about PitBoss but ya can’t beat the knowledge in this forum 🇺🇸🇨🇱

None of it has worked.

sounds like you should sell the smoker and buy a ReqTeq, ZGrills, Yoder, Camp Chef, ….and pay 2x the price. Pitboss is known for being much much cheaper than other brands. As part of being cheaper there are compromises….one is the controller and software are not very good. And I agree with you that is unfortunate…..but I knew going in that I was going to change out the controller with a ReqTeq unit because I had a spare. Having said that….the mechanical build of my pitboss pb4 pro vertical is stout! No issue whatsoever…..amazing quality! Spend more and expect more….but spend less and expect more is just asking for frustration.

That's a pretty lame response, not helpful and slightly condescending. I do not see where the OP asked for input on which unit to purchase. Also, you are wrong and your attitude promotes part of the problem.
If Pit Boss wants to sell a unit that is advertised as having wireless connection, that feature should work as advertised/expected. It is no fault of the purchaser that the price is set where it is by the seller.
For myself, I did not select my PBV4PS because of the price. I selected it because of the build and features. The price being lower than others is up to the manufacturer and seller, not me.

Price is generally set by the number of features a product has. I bought a Pit Boss because of its features over other brands, focusing on the features I wanted as well as needed. Some products had more, but I didn't need them but I focused on the reality of my needs. In this case, practically the only feature I felt I "had" to have was the wifi connection, and unfortunately, that was the only feature I couldn't utilize in this unit because it wasn't working as expected and wasn't fixable without entertaining subjective possible fixes.

1. Yes you are correct.....I was condescending(sorry I usually am not)......but my attitude is based on the entire post....from his original post to his latest one. Several people including myself tried to help him with his issue and he stated emphatically that our answers were "mediocre" at best.
2. Go back and read his posts.....he is not having an issue with his Smoker....he is having an issue with his router setup. He said "Pit Boss told him it won't connect to 64Ghz....and only 24Ghz"....what they likely told him is that It won't connect to 5Ghz Wifi...but only 2.4Ghz. He doesn't understand Wifi networking....and that is why so many people posted answers to help him....look through the posts.
3. His comment that 2.4Ghz is too slow....so he is Returning the Smoker.....is just silly. You can't tell the difference between 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz when you are only sending temperature data.....and in actuality....you want the 2.4Ghz because it can reach farther to get to your router.
4. He said Spectrum is only letting him setup the 2.4Ghz in his router through their app for 30 minutes and then it kicks off the Smoker.....another Router issue....not a Pit Boss issue. He just needs to contact someone who can help him setup his Spectrum router correctly....OR....add a 2.4Ghz repeater somewhere near his smoker....they are like $20. Then he can leave his Spectrum router alone...and Disable the 5Ghz and only Transmit the 2.4Ghz. Again....this is not a Pit Boss issue.....and I would have been happy to help him configure all of this as well.
TPLink Wifi Extender Dual Band 5Ghz/2.4Ghz.

So.....I apologize to you if what I wrote sounded abrasive....but when someone posts for help....and help is given and then they negate/bash those who help them....you can expect some type of rebuttal...Especially when in this case....the issues is his network....and Pit Boss is not at fault.

No harm no foul @GeekChef !
Everyone has an opinion and that what makes this forum so awesome
You have nothing in my eyes to apologize for 🇨🇱🇺🇸

I understood all the comments, and theoretically, it should work even though. And you must have overlooked it; the person tried everything in his case, adding the network router, resetting it to 24 GHz, and guess what? He still is dealing with it connecting. For you to say I purposely ignored all the help, you certainly are abrasive. Please read:

I feel your pain. Can't get firmware to update. Disabled the 5ghz on my ATT router. Still not able to update firmware. Bought a dedicated 2.4ghz router. Plugged it into an ethernet port. Able to see my 2.4ghz network. PB app said connected to 2.4ghz router, but when I login to router can't see the PB MAC address. PB support has been a waste of time. My firmware level is d60. PB support tells me that is your problem you need to be on d62. Waited for OTA (Over the Air) update that was promised by PB support. That never happened. Beyond frustrated.

My last comment on this topic: You have a router issue....you connected and saw your smoker and then your router kicked you off after 30 minutes.....if you would like help fixing that issue.....that issue can be fixed...but not by Pit Boss. Apologies that I took offense at your comment....but it was unwarranted.

The other guy's issue is different than yours.....seems to still be a router issue because he can't see the mac address of the Pit Boss Smoker in the router table of the 2.4Ghz router. Could be a Pit Boss issue....or could still be a router issue.....there are other things to try.

mcf0807.....if you still can't connect.....then I would be happy to help track down the issue. If you have fixed it....let us know what you did to get it to get the latest firmware and connect to the Router.
