Pro Series 1150 review

Wonder if the new firmware will allow it? Doesn't the controller on the Lockhart adjust by 5? I think it does so I wonder why they don't have it on this one.
Lockhart and Pro Series PID controller are built by different manufactures. The Smoke iT is manufactured out of China which manufactured the current controller on the Legacy Pit Boss grills on which they now have a PID WiFi controller and a Non-PID WiFi controller.

I purchased one about two weeks ago from Lowe's, and cooked on it about 5 times now with each cook holding temp beautifully. Once I've started mine, I would start it with the lid open until the thick smoke clears then close the lid and set to the desired temp. No problem reaching 350 or even 400 degree temps. I have not ran it over 400 degrees. Once the desired temp is reached (which does not take an eternity at least on my unit) they are pretty much locked in and do not fluctuate much within about 5 degrees, When getting an ambient temp with the pit boss probes, I notice about a 12 to 13 degree difference between the probe temps and display temp (pit boss probes are known to not be accurate, so I trust the display temp, the grill heat is even all the way across though) I also have a thermopro bluetooth thermometer which is registering within a few degrees of the grill's displayed temps. Keep in mind that if you need more heat, on this unit you have a manual auger control which if utilized properly, will deliver more barrel heat and smoke when needed (if needed to get to 350 quickly, then dial the controller to 350 and as the temp slowly rises, with the press of a button, you can feed in more pellets to help the unit get there faster, what I've discovered is once it's there, the PID controller will regulate the temp to stay there). My major complaint is the wireless app. The Smoke It app interface could use some updating it is horrible as far as trying to adjust grill temps, it does not display set and actual temps and if you accidentally shut the grill off via the app, you have to go out to the grill to repower the unit. All in all I love the grill, have not dabbled with the recipe settings as of yet, but the app can use a serious facelift.

I know you like your grill but, do you use it right there in your office?

I've been messing with the 1150 for a couple weeks now and nothing is working. Customer service keeps telling me different "fixes" and nothing works so far. The lastest person told me they decided not to update firmware and now I need to bring the grill up to 350 for 45 mins then drop it down to 200 for 20 then turn it off til it cools. Then repeat up to 350 for 45 mins then down to 225 for 20mins and then turn it off then repeat ending at 250. Sounds like a load of BS to me but I'm going to give it a try tomorrow if it does work i'm taking it back to lowes. With 25% off coupon I got i might try the 850 i heard that model didn't have issues.

Wow. I sent two emails to pitboss and have yet to get any response. They are definitely not scoring points in the customer service department from me.

Best bet is to call. I have 5 times now. Usually you leave your number and someone calls you back within 30 minutes. They are short staffed due to covid so i give them a little break but i'm not happy with this grill so far.

This is a waste of time. I did the exact same thing as directed and it got the grill closer each time but not where it should be and it was temporary. 2 days later it’s back to the same crap.

I'm giving it a shot right now I'll report how it works for me but I don't have high hopes. Annoying how many pellets I have to waste to get something to work the way it's supposed to.

Well it didn't even come close to working:(. It held at 200 for the 20 mins but when I did the 2nd series of 45mins at 350 and tried to bring it down to 225 for 20 mins it dropped to 190 and the same when I tried 250. I'm giving up on the 1150 and going to either try the 850 or KC combo not sure yet. More depends on what is in stock. Which do you guys think is a better?

Abe,

I think the 850 has the exact same issues. Not sure I would go to that one considering they have the same controller.

That's what I was thinking but I hadn't read any negative reviews about it not keeping temp. My lowes doesn't have it in stock. Might check out the sportsman series. Happy New year!

Possible fix. I found in the 1150 owners group on facebook. People are taking the cover over the temp prob with good success. I'll try tomorrow and let you guys know if it works.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=J6b7LNBh1vw&feature=youtu.be
