On my 700 i had to use a bent piece of metal to reach between the grates to slide the plate back and forth. It worked but was a little fidlly. I see the new pit bosses have a rod to slide the plate. I made one today....

Trying something different today. I very very seldom slide the plate so not having the option is not a big deal for me. I notice alot of rust forming between the sliding plate and the main plate. Its to the point of actually flaking. I read somewhere here that the sliding part fits perfectly over the firepot as a heat diffuser. It does.....

So far, ive noticed less temp swings, much closer temps to the set setting and watching the normal up/down swings, the average seems to be running about 10° cooler.

Its like "The Boss" is on Valium and his mood swings are under control. I'll check in later after the cook is done....

Forgot to mention I also have a hunk of beef on charcoal in case the pork doesnt work out....but it should

It really made a difference on my grill using the sliding plate as a diffuser. Grill activity seemed smoother, more controlled. Rather than quick temp spikes with large cooling time, temps seemed to rise and fall more gradual and with lesser highs and lows....

Plate will stay where it is. Hopefully, without it resting on the base plate, condensation/humidity wont be trapped and rusting wont be as fast. Time will tell....
