Wrapping drip tray

Hey all

Just got my first Pitboss 850 pro and I read in the manual to not wrap the drip tray in foil, I was just doing some smoking and not searing so I figured I’d live life in the edge and wrap the drip tray and sear plate for easy cleaning anyway. Didn’t have any issues and I’m just wondering why they say not to wrap it?

Don't know because mine stays wrapped 95% of the time and never had an issue with it. Easier clean. I suppose they add that disclaimer because a foil wrapped shield could mean the grease will not flow down correctly.

I keep my 1150 wrapped all the time now. You do have to wrap it smooth so grease can flow out. Stupid sear plate makes that aggravating.

I would think wrapping it would hinder the smoke getting up to the meat I don't wrap mine because of that

Have never wrapped but thought about it. The sear plate has always turned me off even though I've never used it to sear. I do open it along with the lid when starting the smoker.

Granted you can’t use the sear vent, but after cleaning mine this morning, I can promise I’ll be wrapping it next time lol! I will use heavy duty foil but as long as it’s done carefully I can’t see a problem with the grease running like it should.

Ya. I been wrapping mine and probably will be 99% of the time. I feel it also helps with the hot spot over the sear plate but maybe just in my head lol
