Fan on PBV6PSE replacement

UPDATE: Parts I received were all wrong. So called Customer Care back and the rep knew exactly the problem (explained in detail what fan I needed) , SKU# 90059. So they are replacing. As for the control board, they don’t have them and said not available for replacement. The rep. could not even give me a cost and system would not even allow him to order one. I am thinking they are no longer available.
Will update again when I get the parts

Chuck P, thanks for the pics. Helped greatly!!

Wow, control board is not available for the smoker? This is the vertical sold only by Lowes?

I guess I'm glad they sent me a control panel when they were in the parts canon mode to fix melted stuff from a back-burn a couple summers ago.

Yes, but the controller they don’t have is the Series 6 with the flip up/down shelve. Vertical series 2,3,4,5 & 7 not effected

Here's the fan. It's in my spare parts box waiting for the day it's needed. It took about two months for Pitboss to deliver when the harness melted on the original fan.

Hi Chuck P, Need a favor, need to know the orientation of the fan on the smoker. Does your pull air and exhaust out the bottom of your smoker at start up or does it push the air up into the smoker. On my unit when I received it, it pull air so it vented smoke out the bottom Of the smoker and when I installed new fan the same way. It melted the insulation off the wires. As it pulled the hot air across the wires. I know tough the get a visual with the cover on it.

Mine always pushes air into the burn pot area. My wires burned up when the fire burned back into the area under the auger behind the burn pot.

This pic shows the orientation of the fan, but it is moved off to the side. The image is upside down though. I took the door off and the stack, then turned the smoker upside-down to make the work easy. The fan wires were rerouted, so they do not pass through the area by the auger and burn pot.

The smoker shut down when I was away from the house running an errand and burned back through the hopper. I'm not sure what happened to cause it. I know there was not a power outage (I have UPSs that will report even a fraction of a second power loss).

One thing I've noticed is that there were pellets outside the burn pot under the auger tube. I now ensure there are no pellets laying inside the channel behind the pot, under the auger tube. My thinking is that when pulling the burn pot to dump it, pellets can drop from the auger tube and build up behind the burn pot. If you roll the smoker about while the pot is pulled out, pellets can drop out. Do this a few times and pellets accumulate and could begin to burn and melt the wires, or more. I suppose the auger could over-feed the pot and pellets could spill out the ventilation holes, too.

My final resolution has been to ensure there are no pellets in the area under the auger every time I remove and reinsert the burn pot. That along with routing the fan wires outside the area with the auger and burn pot are an improvement is reducing risk of having a fire in the wrong places. I haven't had any issues since.

I should note that I'm assuming the fan does not run in reverse during initial startup. I've never cared to look down at it then, but I've never noticed smoke coming from where it shouldn't.

Hi Chuck P.
Your wires looks just like mine. But because I had fan installed incorrectly. But I have found out the same, I need to clean out area below auger every time, I have even noticed that the pot will not slide all the way back if pellets in there.
I really appreciate your help. I have repaired the wires and will find alternative way of routing wire so not inside by pot.
Going to reinstall and give update and pics of install so if someone else has this issue, hopefully this thread will help them.
