Heat Deflector/ Airgap Mod?

Anyone here use the Heat Deflector/ Airgap Mod from SmokesLikeABoss or something similar to block the gap between the curved heat diffuser and the flat ledge it sits on? Does it really work as stated? It makes sense to me that the hot air would rise out through that gap and affect the temp probe, but I have not tested it.

I keep mine packed foil along with deflector plate covered.

I did mine last night before my first brisket this morning. I can't say it has helped or hurt anything, but it seemed like a good idea to me.

Yes, I would say it works. You can accomplish the same thing with foil if you want to test it out for yourself. I put up a recent post that documents the difference with and without it with graphs.

I tried the triple hole and with meater probes and oven temp thermometers got pretty stable readings. Their was still a difference between LT & RT side , and FORE & AFT as you face the grill but seemed more stable. I have the 850 model.

Yep, I ordered and installed and the temps are much more even across the grill.

Does the temp on your controller also say 350? I think the deflector shield is intended to keep your temp probe from reading hotter than the actual temp in the smoker.

Yes I have installed one. So far it helps to give more reliable temps. I also installed the flame tamer.

This may have been mentioned in a previous post, but I can't find anything after searching the forums. Does anyone know if there is an airgap mod available for purchase that fits the PB850CS1 (from Academy Sports) model ? If not, I'll go the foil route.
